Today was a very interesting day. I woke up at 5 AM on Jian’s couch. His alarm was “This is How We Do it” by Montell Jordan, and I started dancing right when I woke up. I got up, then basically left. I drove all the way to work and got there 30 minutes early. Knocked out again and then waited for Holland to open. I got cut early cause it was so slow, praise God! Went to the mall to try and get my phone back, but that didn’t work out too well. So I guess I have to wait even longer. I drove back to San Jose and my “home boys” weren’t home, so I was bored. I took a long walk around the City and ended up going to the Market to buy some random foods. As I was walking around, I noticed some interesting things. That old man that sits at the bench talking to himself. The quietness of the shopping centers on a Sunday afternoon. That dumb dog that likes to hump people’s legs. Those weird guys that sit on the corner and laugh obnoxiously. And the smell of random assortments of food as you walk along Second and First Street. I heard the conversations of employees on their break. Couples arguing in the street. The sound of sirens, honks from cars, and screeches from tires. I heard the airplanes above going to the airport. And most especially, the sound of the wind. So many things you can notice if you just look and listen.
We go through our days doing the same old routine and only worrying about our world but never worrying about the world around us. Today I took a step away from the usual and took a day to myself. Sometimes you need that. Sometimes you need to be alone before you can be with other people. This weekend I spent time with some pretty fantastic individuals. Something struck me this weekend and that was what a Brother said to me. He said at times we need to balance our Faith. We take so much time praying and talking to God about our needs and what we want and what needs to be improved. But we rarely ever get the chance to listen. I learned that you need a perfect balance in everything in life. You talk to God, but you never take time to listen. A huge part of your Faith requires you to listen more, instead of asking why this, why that, and how come it isn’t? If you just listen, maybe you’ll find what you’re looking for. Today, I took the time to listen. To be on my own. To find out what God is really trying to tell me as I go on about my regular schedule. I’m not saying we should always find ourselves in confinement, but at times, everyone needs a break. Everyone needs to slip away from their reality and step into the real reality. Our world sometimes isn’t the real world God has planned for us. Take time to realize what is around you. See what is usually seen, yet it is unseen. Hear what you hear everyday, yet it is constantly ignored. I guess I’m truly living life simply as I planned. My phone was stripped away, I’ve spent time alone, and I’ve noticed things that I’ve never paid any attention to before. “Life’s Too Short.”
Now it’s time to do work son. Amen.
